Last Day on our Lonesome

We kicked off another chilly morning with a couple of Meat Egg and Cheese Everything Bagels and a repeat visit to the Pedlar for some caffeine. In consultation with our go-to-guy Google, it was suggested taking a trip to some of Brooklyn's most sought after real estate was worthwhile. Brooklyn's highest point, with some of the best city and harbour views is occupied by a bunch of dead guys in Green-Wood Cemetery. The cemetery visit, while seemingly morbid, turned out to be a really enjoyable experience. We were able to do a bit of market research into what monstrosities are available to adorn your tomb. Popular options include Greek Style Parthenon:

Semi recessed crypt:

Or my personal favourite and likely future grave style, the Pyramid Sphinx combo:

It was, questionable taste in burial styles aside, a beautiful and peaceful spot to spend a few hours. The entire grounds cover 428 acres and the views to Manhattan and the harbour were spectacular.

The onsite Chapel was a tranquil warm spot to enjoy a rest before a stroll around the water features.

Don't worry Mr Gargoyle, I'm sure it'll be all right. To satisfy our cemetery derived hunger we headed across the road to Baked in Brooklyn for some fresh rye stuffed with pastrami and lashings of mustard.

After incurring a brutal double charging on the subway we headed back to Brooklyn Heights and wandered around the promenade to the Brooklyn side of the bridge. At the base of the southern side of the bridge, Grimaldis pizza had a queue out the door extending 50m down the road. It must be good.

We said our goodbyes to Brooklyn, packed our gear and headed back down to the tube where Public Transport Karma came round real fast as promised (http://m.soundcloud.com/seed22/public-transport-karma-mix2) by providing a free ride into Times Square. We checked into our luxurious double bunk room at the Equity Point Hostel where we spent happy hour in the bar awaiting the arrival of the Londoners.

I would not recommend Times Square for anyone susceptible to epilepsy or seizures, anyone who doesn't enjoy crowds, constant harassment from Comedy Central salespeople or normal humans. It is pretty freakin' awesome though and I see why it is so jam packed with people.

Beer of the day:
Medusa IPA - Pint Glass $5 Happy Hour - Floral, moderate hops for an IPA, pleasant but not noteworthy.
