Brooklyn Heights

Sunday morning dawned crisp and clear and we decided to go exploring. The view from the Brooklyn Promenade toward Manhattan was a good one.

Whether through skill or dumb luck today was from food heaven. We stumbled upon a little cafe called The Pedlar where in the time it took to make a couple of excellent coffees we had the pleasure of The Clash, The Pixies and some Radiohead. Will definitely be back tomorrow. The sun disappeared and the drizzle started mid morning, putting a bit of a dampener on our recon of Brooklyn Heights. The neighbourhoods lining the bay were straight from a sitcom. It was very a very pleasant morning wandering through apartment lined streets.

Appetite worked up, our gastronomic pilgrimage continued with lunch at a little french joint called Chez Moi. Croque Madame and eggs Florentine washed down with some locally brewed IPA were almost perfect. The afternoon was spent in search of new threads with little success.

We had booked dinner at Onvivium Costeria, a Spanish/Italian style restaurant. We arrived and were shown to a table in the candlelit wine cellar underneath street level. The atmosphere was intimate and relaxing, probably the first restaurant where I was hoping the food came out slowly. We enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Italian Spelt to accompany our quail, octopus, rabbit and prawns. It was a really nice experience and somewhere we wouldn't have come across if it wasn't for google.

Lesson of the day:
If you expect cars to stop for you at zebra crossings you will end up very flat. The MTA seemingly doesn't put much faith in peoples ability to understand traffic lights either. Hi-Vis clad cops direct traffic at major intersections despite the presence of perfectly operational lights.

Beer of the day:
Local Brooklyn IPA, Pint Glass @ Chez Moi - Hoppy, fruity and very good.
